We lucked out on the weather for the Novice Singles Tournament, commemorating Zander Panzo, our founder of the BBC. It was glorious, though became a bit hot into the games.
Ten competitors attended -- several via a posting of the event in Front Porch Forum, some current BBC members (one being Inga Sell, already one of the best players in the Red League though still not a medal holder).
Thanks to Maureen and Michelle who were there to help set up the event and greet the players. And special thanks to Josette and Ashley for staying till the end of the match at 2 PM working as refs, coaches and cleanup crew.
By 12:30 players were becoming fatigued by the heat, and the last 90 minutes was a push. A bronze medal was won by David Webster who had to leave early (he already had a "lock" on the bronze).
The final match, played on Court 4 starring Sharon Weltman and Inga, was truly a match of accuracy. We're now inspired to play on Court 4.
Note:
Sharon and Inga, on their showdown for gold and silver, just wanted to stop playing and be co-winners.
They both agreed to play a single frame to decided who got gold and silver.
They were both happy about the income.
Results: Gold 1st place Sharon Weltman
Silver 2nd place Inga Sell
Bronze 3rd place David Webster
A great day we had!
